Charlotte Philipps is a private equity and debt financing professional, who has been investing and structuring transactions in emerging markets for over 20 years. Starting her finance career at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development in the early 1990s, she was responsible for some of the most visible projects within EBRD’s natural resources and industrial sectors. The $ 3.6bn financing of the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline and the $450m loan to Ispat Karmet, Lakshmi Mittal’s first investment in the former Soviet Union, are two of the transactions lead by Charlotte, that won multiple awards. At EBRD, Charlotte also participated in shaping the equity investment strategy and the development of the corporate recovery and restructuring function of the Bank.
In 2006 Charlotte relocated to Moscow to take the position of President and CEO of AIG’s private equity platform for the former Soviet Union. At AIG, Charlotte led a team investing in excess of $100 million in to assets of close to $1bn. Following the sale of AIG’s alternatives platform, Charlotte joined Xenon Capital Partners a specialized, advisory, firm in Moscow in 2010. Within Xenon she was responsible for advising on large debt financing transactions as well as equity investments in waste management, media and natural resources. Charlotte oversaw the operations of Rusenergo Fund, Russia’s largest utility fund to which Xenon was the investment advisor. As a member of the Strategy and Investment Committee of InterRAO UES, Russia’s largest fully integrated listed power utility, Charlotte continues to advise in the consumer industries, utilities and natural resource sector in Russia and other countries of the former Soviet Union.
